Short Bio:

Сalled to the Bar of England and Wales in 2003.  

1995 - graduated (diploma with distinction, 1st Class Honours equivalent) from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University), "MGIMO". Awarded a Personal Scholarship of the President of the Russian Federation for academic excellence.

1999-2003 - completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Law and a Bar Vocational Course, followed by a 12-month chancery/ commercial pupillage (legal traineeship) in New Square Chambers. Awarded a Major Scholarship by the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple.

For over 10 years, practised in a set of chancery/ commercial chambers in Lincoln's Inn.


My clients range from individuals to SMEs to large corporations, from solo practitioners to international law firms.

I worked in cross-border legal teams in complex commercial cases such as Tajik Aluminium Plant v Ermatov and Others (2006), High Tech International AG v Deripaska (2006), Ashton Investments Ltd v OJSC Russian Aluminium (2006) Cherney v Deripaska (2006-2007, 2011), ADI v Russpetsstal (2010), and developed, inter alia, a particular interest and expertise in jurisdictional challenges.

I am included in the list of LCIA arbitrators and accept appointments as an arbitrator under various rules.

I provide advisory and drafting services in a non-contentious/ corporate context, in relation to joint ventures, shareholders' agreements, various aspects of M&A and other transactions, setting up a business, etc.

By way of illustration, I acted for several months as the sole advisor to a leading Russian technology development company on various matters arising from an investment (M&A) project and assisted with drafting complex contractual documents; advised a German software company on a prospective JV for the purpose of establishing business operations in Russia; advised a Russian investment company on disclosure in the context of a M&A project, and so on.

Examples of recent work:

  • Acting as sole counsel in a High Court case representing famous Russian dancers in a lawsuit for breach of contract  brought by a Danish producer and assisting with reaching a settlement

  • Advising a SME from Ukraine in respect of business assets acquisition

  • Drafting a defence in arbitration proceedings in a claim for breach of contract brought against a Ukrainain supplier

  • Advising a Russian businessman on investment into and setting up a specific type of a regulated business in the UK

  • Acting as an expert witness on English law in the Moscow commercial court proceedings (a claim for an alleged breach of contract by a Russian company)
